Effects of Prosopis africana (Guill. & Perr.) Taub. and Ficus mucoso Ficalho ethanolic leaves extract in the control of Callosobruchus maculatus (Fabricius, 1775) in stored cowpea

The study investigated the effectiveness of Prosopis africana and Ficus mucoso ethanolic leave extract in control Callosobruchus maculatus infesting cowpea. Treatments were applied at different concentrations (10 %, 30 % , 50 0 %) on Five pairs newly emerged adult C. introduced into each treatment. two botanicals evaluated insecticidal effects it has insect data recorded mortality, oviposition rate, larvae, pupae, emergence, seed viability, phytochemicals present both botanicals. Results revealed that treatments had potentials, adversely reducing number eggs, pupae with P. having highest mean mortality rate concentration. Observations further indicated no negative effect viability. phytochemical analysis presence some bioactive compounds such as terpenoids, flavonoids, alkaloids, saponin, steroids, tannin, mostly rich them than F. mucoso. Though extracts effective, performed better bruchid beetle indicating plausible usefulness sustainable pest management by smallholder farmers consumers cowpea environments where plants are abundance.
